Tomorrow's World Today - Season 2, Episode 11: "Closing the Circle"
This episode takes viewers on an unprecedented journey through the complete lifecycle of plastic recycling, following a simple egg carton from disposal to rebirth. The original idea pitch was, “Cup-to-Cup” but for trademark concerns over a well-known red plastic cup, it was changed to an egg carton.
Featuring cutting-edge pyrolysis technology at the Regenyx JV facility in Tigard, Oregon, and Titus Recycling in Orange County, California, the episode demystifies advanced plastics recycling for general audiences. By centering the story around a familiar household item, the production transforms complex chemical engineering into accessible public education, demonstrating how "chemical recycling" can return plastic waste to virgin-quality feedstock and truly "close the circle."
My role
As co-producer, co-writer, and creative director, I developed the innovative narrative structure that follows plastic through its complete circular journey. I coordinated production logistics between multiple industrial facilities, conducted location scouting, and overcame significant travel and scheduling challenges. My creative direction focused on making revolutionary recycling science relatable to everyday viewers, translating complex industrial processes into compelling visual storytelling that serves both entertainment and educational goals for this national public education initiative.
